Jennifer

Jen is my eternal companion. I love her so much.

When I proposed to Jen, she was 19 years old. I told her we would wait until she was not a teenager to get married. So recently, Jen just had her 40th birthday. In less than a month we will celebrate 20 years of marriage. So, shortly after that we will celebrate a special occasion. From then on, for most of her life she will be a married woman. I really do thank God every day to have my fantastic, magnificent, stellar wife.

Laurel

Both my youngest child and my only girl, Laurel is pretty special to me. I can’t believe how these kids grow. We really don’t have little kids anymore. Laurel is quite a young lady. She is friendly and clever and energetic. I love having her on my team.

Clark

Look who is the Commonwealth's newest licensed driver.

Clark is growing up. I'm not sure exactly when it happened, but I've had a sneaky suspicion for a while that this was going on.

The days of my "little me" are long gone.

Clark is now bigger than me.

I am grateful for a trustworthy young man who is becoming his own man, more and more independent.

Grant

Yesterday I took Spencer and Grant camping with some other boys from church.

This morning we got up early to go mountain biking. Grant is one of the younger kids in the group and had never gone mountain biking before. We did an intermediate level trail. It was beyond his skill level. He fell over again and again. He bashed up his bike and busted the gear shifter. Every time he got back up again and rode some more. All the other boys ended up way ahead of us. Grant did not give up. He finished the 4 miles and rode triumphant back to camp. Good job Grant!

I am grateful for my buddy Grant.

Here are some pictures I have of Grant from the last couple of weeks.

West Virginia Travels

We took a long weekend and spent some time in a cabin in West Virginia. We celebrated Jen's birthday and enjoyed some quarantine friendly travel.

They had some arcade games...

... and air hockey table...

... and a hot tub.

Some time at the fire pit, making pudgie pies and roasting marshmallows.

Driving up and down the mountains of West Virginia was a real experience. At one point we charged the battery of our hybrid up to 20% just by coasting down the mountain. That should be enough energy to go another 5 miles on level roads.

The windy mountain roads tend to cause some motion sickness. A brief stop at an overlook, is great preventative medicine.

Our first big adventure was spelunking or cave exploring. We had a guide take us through, but here Clark and Grant take the lead with map and compass.

Before
After

Stop for lunch to get some pepperoni rolls- a WV classic

We went to Green Bank Observatory. We didn't get many pictures since all electronic devices are forbidden on the campus. The equipment is highly sensitive to any electrical fields. Even cars have to be Diesel- since there are no spark plugs. They have a number of  radio wave satellites pointed into space. The satellite in the background of this photos has a surface area greater than 2 acres- massive.

We visited Beartown State Park- full of fascinating geological features, which can get your imagination going. No actual bears.

Our last adventure was a short section of the Greenbrier River trail, which included the Droop Mountain Tunnel
